About

Ankit Rana, Senior Software Engineer at Walmart Global Tech

I am Ankit Rana, a Senior Software Engineer at Walmart Global Tech India. I design, build, and operate cloud-native distributed systems that run enterprise e-commerce at scale.

My engineering philosophy is straightforward: build systems that are simple, resilient, and fiercely cost-effective. Shipping features is only one part of the job. Engineering solutions that actively drive down compute and infrastructure cost is the real measure of success.

What I Work On

Day to day I work on backend services in Java and Spring Boot, deployed on Kubernetes and backed by Azure Cosmos DB. That means designing for partition tolerance and consistency trade-offs, keeping p99 latency predictable under load, and cutting infrastructure spend without trading away reliability.

Alongside that I build agentic systems: Model Context Protocol servers, agent-to-agent workflows, and deterministic orchestration that offloads routine engineering and operations work.

Why I Write These Logs

Most engineering content explains what a technology does. Very little explains what it costs you at 3 AM. The engineering logs on this site start from a production failure mode — a saturated connection pool, a UUID primary key shredding a B+ tree, a thread pool sized past the core count — then work down to the mechanism and put a number on it.

I write them to sharpen my own understanding. They are published because the version of me from three years ago needed them and could not find them.
